What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to reduce the visibility of wrinkles, restore volume, and reshape body features for aesthetic purposes, such as fuller lips and receding chins.

What is Hyaluronic Acid? 

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) naturally occurs in our bodies to provide hydration, volume, and elasticity to our skin. As we age, we lose Hyaluronic Acid, causing wrinkles and folds to appear. Restylane dermal fillers use Hyaluronic Acid gel technology to deliver hydration, fullness, and suppleness back into the face, hands, and lips.

What causes wrinkles?

As we age, our skin loses volume and elasticity. Additionally, the fat that supports the skin and facial structures atrophies or shrinks. Internal and external factors, like genetics and smoking, contribute to this process and can enhance the speed at which wrinkles occur. Restylane treatments contain Hyaluronic Acid, a natural component in our bodies that provides hydration, volume, and elasticity to our skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

How long are Restylane treatment appointments?

Most appointments are less than one hour, making this an easy addition to a busy schedule.

Are treatments painful?

Most Restylane products contain lidocaine to help decrease discomfort during and after treatment. We also offer topical numbing cream and NitroNox Plus for pain and anxiety management.  NitroNox Plus is an inhalant containing 70% nitrous oxide and 30% oxygen specifically designed to help alleviate pain and anxiety during your treatment. The benefits of NitroNox Plus include decreased pain and anxiety and a mild euphoric sensation during treatment. Additionally, NitroNox Plus is a self-administered treatment that acts quickly and wears off quickly, allowing the patient to feel normal within minutes of stopping. NitroNox Plus is a safe alternative to pain and anxiety management. Nitrous Oxide has been used in medical procedures for over 100 years. NitroNox Plus is excellent for various treatments including dermal fillers, injectables, blood draws, laser treatments, laser hair removal, laser tattoo removal, Morpheus8, PRP Skin Rejuvenation, PRP Hair Restoration, and Skin Pen Microneedling.

How long do treatments last? 

Results will vary depending on product, but expected durations are as follows:

  • Treatment results for facial wrinkles and folds may last up to 18 months
  • Restylane Contour for treatment of cheeks may last up to 18 months
  • Restylane Kysse for lips may last up to 1 year
  • Restylane Defyne for facial wrinkles and chin shaping may last up to 1 year
  • Restylane Lyft for facial wrinkles and volumizing hands may last up to 1 year for cheeks, and 6-12 months for facial wrinkles and hands
  • Restylane Refyne for facial wrinkles, nasolabial folds, and laugh lines may last up to 1 year
  • Restylane Silk for lips and lines around the mouth may last up to 6 months

What are the possible side effects? 

The most common side effects include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Mild pain
  • Bruising
  • Headaches
  • Sensitivity
  • Lump formation
  • Itching at the injection site
  • Possible impaired hand function

Side effects are typically mild and can last up to 7 days for nasolabial folds and 14 to 18 days for lips. Swelling is more likely for patients under 35 years of age. Bruising is more likely for patients over 35 years of age.

Who is not a candidate for treatments?

Restylane products are not suitable for people who are:

  • Under 22 years of age
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • On blood thinning medication or have a known history of bleeding disorders
  • Previous allergic reactions to certain medications, especially hyaluronic acid filles or lidocaine
